This novel became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries as a legendary literature piece. Certain authors like Charles Robert Maturin, Ann Radcliffe, Bram Stoker, Edgar Allan Poe and Daphne du Maurier are attributed to the novel Castle, and Walpole as the forerunner in the industry.
